Why is this not a CS4HS?
Hey everyone, Lars here. The answer to the question is simple. Google’s CS4HS program is no longer supporting face to face professional development for teachers. They have decided to pursue MOOCs and other means of delivering content for professional development. Fran and I received an email telling us that this was the case just as we were about to submit a proposal to do our conference here at Rutgers for the third year. After a lot of thought we decided that we still wanted to continue with our in person profesional development so we went to our departments (RU CS for Fran, The Lab for CS Research for me) and asked if they could sponsor us this year. Our departments graciously agreed.
We appreciate that Google hosted us for two years. Because of Google’s support, we have built a community and we are grateful to them for that. Perhaps Google will support in person teacher development again in the future, but for this year at least it’s a Rutgers Production 😉 This is also the reason why the stipend has been reduced from $200 to $150. Other than that small change we intend to carry on as we have for the past two years. We hope to see you on the 18th.
