the Coding & Social Lounge
(formerly known as the CAVE)

The Coding & Social Lounge (CSL), formerly known as the CAVE, is a vibrant hub for Computer Science students. Located on the second floor of the Hill Center Annex in Room 252 on Busch Campus,  it is part of the Computer Science Instructional Labs and was designed to foster a collaborative atmosphere for group projects.

At the CSL, students can hang out between classes, meet other students in CS, and receive tutoring for most CS classes. The CSL is also the meeting location for many of the CS clubs. Learn more about the CSL revamp at this blog post.

Our Values
These five values define what the CSL stands for as a community. They apply to everyone who comes to the space: students, staff, faculty, SCMs, and prospective members.

  1. Come As You Are
You do not have to earn your place here. We will meet you where you are, welcome you as you are, and be here whenever you need us, no matter where else your path in CS takes you.
  2. This Is Our Home
We take care of this space because it is ours, a living reflection of everyone who has ever called it home, past, present, and future. We hold ourselves collectively responsible for the physical space, the culture within it, and each other.
  3. Show Up for Yourself
We show up for ourselves because we know that every visit counts, even when it does not feel like it. Growth at the CSL is quiet and gradual, accumulating through every conversation, every challenge, every unexpected connection. Just show up.
  4. No Ego, No Agenda
Interactions here are protected because we do not make room for ego or self-interest. We engage with each other with the safety to admit uncertainty, the comfort to challenge ideas openly, and the trust to seek support without ulterior motives.
  5. Raising the Tide
What you gain here cannot be found in a classroom: a community that strives to become the best version of itself and everyone in it. We push ourselves and each other. The tide rises with us, carrying everyone’s ambition, standard, and potential higher than any of us could reach alone.

While anyone is in the CSL, they are held accountable to the CSL Code of ConductViolators will be warned and further action may be taken if necessary.

The CSL is maintained and run by our terrific Student Community Managers (SCM). The SCMs are in charge of maintaining the CSL and enforcing all of the above, such as the mission statement and everything under Ways to Utilize the CSL.
